Stainless steel pipes generally use three hardness indexes, Brinell, Rockwell, and Vickers to measure their hardness.
Brinell hardness
Among the stainless steel pipe standards, Brinell hardness is the most widely used, and the hardness of the material is often expressed by the indentation diameter, which is both intuitive and convenient. But it is not suitable for steel pipes of harder or thinner steel.
Rockwell hardness
The Rockwell hardness test of stainless steel pipe is the same as the Brinell hardness test, which is the indentation test method. The difference is that it measures the depth of the indentation. Rockwell hardness test is currently a widely used method, among which HRC is second only to Brinell hardness HB in steel pipe standards. Rockwell hardness can be used to measure metal materials from extremely soft to extremely hard. It makes up for the difference of the Brinell method and is simpler than the Brinell method. The hardness value can be read directly from the dial of the hardness machine. However, due to its small indentation, the hardness value is not as accurate as the Brinell method.
Vickers hardness
The stainless steel tube Vickers hardness test is also an indentation test method, which can be used to determine the hardness of very thin metal materials and surface layers. It has the main advantages of Brinell and Rockwell method, and overcomes their basic shortcomings, but it is not as simple as Rockwell method. Vickers method is rarely used in steel pipe standards.
1. Steel pipes usually have a length (indefinite length) of hot-rolled steel pipes of 1.5-10m, and hot-extruded steel pipes are equal to and greater than 1m. For cold drawn (rolled) steel pipes with a wall thickness of 0.5~1.0mm, 1.0~7m; for those with a wall thickness greater than 1.0mm, 1.5~8m.
2. There are 45 kinds of hot-rolled (hot-extruded) steel pipes with a diameter of 54-480mm; 36 kinds with a wall thickness of 4.5-45mm. There are 65 kinds of cold drawn (rolled) steel pipes with a diameter of 6~200mm and 39 kinds with a wall thickness of 0.5~21mm.
3. There must be no cracks, folds, cracks, cracks, rolling, delamination and scarring on the inner and outer surfaces of the steel pipe. These defects should be completely removed (except for pipes for mechanical processing). The diameter exceeds the negative deviation. Other minor surface defects that do not exceed the allowable negative deviation may not be removed.
4. Allowable depth of straights. Hot-rolled and hot-extruded steel pipes with a diameter less than or equal to 140mm are not greater than 5% of the nominal wall thickness, and the maximum depth is not greater than 0.5mm; cold drawn (rolled) steel pipes are not greater than 4% of the nominal wall thickness, and the maximum depth is not greater than 0.3 mm.
